Mother’s Day: A day to reflect and show mom your appreciation for her putting up with your shenanigans throughout the years. Of course, your mom is that one person you can give the most inexpensive gift or even a picture of yourself to, and it would make her world. If only the same could be said about Christmas gifts for the rest of your family members and birthday gifts for your friends. Although this is true in most instances, why not go above and beyond to spoil your mom this Mother’s Day?

Spend the entire day with her – As much as it sounds like a no-brainer, most people don’t do it. They believe a nice simple breakfast, or a fancy dinner will suffice; both only taking up a couple hours of the day. What mother’s really want is your time and your company. Depending on how old we are, our busy lives restrict us to occasional phone calls with our moms. Dedicate the entire day to hang with mom. Cook breakfast together in the morning, and plan the rest of the day. Take her on a local road trip, hike, beach trip, museum, dance show, or anything she might like but never has the time to do or someone to do it with. Then treat her to dinner and return her home just in time for bed. Taking her away from her busy life for a day can be a huge de-stressor. It will also allow her to clear her mind from her daily routines.

Chores – Thought you were done with chores, huh? How about accomplishing everything that needs to be done around the house for her: Gardening, laundry, oil change, car wash, clean the house, fix the leaky faucet, buy her groceries, walk the dogs, run her errands, etc.  Conveniently, Mother’s Day lands on a Sunday. You can de-stress your mother’s life a bit and make sure she has a good start to the week, by making sure most of her weekly duties are already done and taken care of. This will allow her to have more me-time throughout the week. It’s the Mother’s Day gift that keeps on giving.

Family Reunion – Do you have relatives nearby, or even a few hours away? If so, gather everyone together for the day. Plan a family barbeque in the yard or at a local park during the day, and a family game night or movie night in the evening. Mother’s love to see the family come together and love being in the company by everyone they love. You can even go as far as to invite the families of your mother’s closest friends, and celebrate all the mothers together.

Deliveries – Not everyone has the privilege of living in the same town, county, or even state as their mothers. If physically being with your mom is just not possible, have something delivered to her that will melt her heart. You can opt to have a dozen roses with a card delivered at her doorstep, or an arrangement of chocolate covered fruit, or you can go the more personal route and create a memory book for her. The memory book can include pictures, snippets of old memories, poetries, and to end it all, a write up saying how much you love and adore her.

Ultimately, it’s not about the amount of money spent that goes into showing your mom appreciation, it’s about the time that you dedicate to her, and the emotions and feelings attached.
